Tuesday Tip...

I have a little tip to share today that I saw on the web somewhere a while back...

I love the look of the half pearls you can buy to put on pages as accents or flower centers, etc... Well, do you hate having to spend the money to buy all the colors available, and even then you can't find just the right color for your project? From now on you can just buy the white pearly colored ones and color your own with a permanent marker (like all those colorful Sharpies they came out with). I was skeptical when I first saw this tip, but I tried it and it really works!

Now I'm off to buy the big set of colored Sharpies! :)

Tuesday tip...

Just a quick tip today about the ribbon I put around my photo mats. I love the look of ribbon and the texture and dimension it adds to a layout (or card, or whatever!).

If my photo mat is 5 inches across, I lay the ribbon across the mat and cut it so about half an inch lays over each side. I then add adhesive to the back side of the ends (just on that half inch section on each end), and fold them around the back of the mat and secure the ends down. Now I have a ribbon going across my mat that I can slide my photo under if I want.

I always like too tie a little knot or put a bow on the ribbon just to give it a finished off look. For the knot, I just tie a small piece of ribbon in a single knot. Before I tighten the knot down, I place a small spot of liquid adhesive where I want the knot to stay... this way it won't move or come un-done.

Thanks for stopping by and happy scrapping! :)

Tuesday tip...

For today's tip I want to talk about eyeballs! lol It seems that no matter who's pattern I am using, I have trouble getting the eyes to cut out right... they just don't seem to match! And I now know from creating my own patterns that it is not in the design part. I believe it has to be the way my Cricut cuts from the SCAL program because when I draw the eyes they match exactly on the screen (and they appear to match on the cutting mat in SCAL as well).

One of my pics shows the problem... I cut those eyes all the same size, just copied and pasted them to get more of them. As you can see I got short ones, fat ones, tall ones, and thin ones! Ugh!
So, my solution: I have found eyes that I like and I cut a bunch of them in a variety of sizes. I keep them in the little container for easy access when I am making my pieces. This also keep me from having to cut eyes each time a do a paper piecing.

They say the 'eyes are the windows to the soul' and it is definitely true that the eyes 'make the face' when you are doing characters. So, if you are having issues cutting matching eyes, then maybe my solution could help. Find a pair of eyes that you like and cut them in a variety of sizes to fit a few sizes of faces.

Happy scrapping!

Tuesday tip...

Well, I have opened my website at www.designsoncloud9.com and have updated my blog to match the site... I hope you like it!

Now for my tip...

There is one tool that I just cannot live without for my paper piecing. I absolutely love my needle point tweezers! I can pick up the smallest of pieces and place them with ease, and the are great for piercing small holes where I need them too. Also, if I have some glue that strays from underneath a piece, I lightly scratch it away with the tip of these tweezers (it doesn't always scrape away the glue completely, but it will remove the shiny surface and disguise it). Just don't leave them in your tool kit with the tip facing up! (I have made that mistake before... ouch!) :)
